Jabbar Anb Big E Never Spoke Again

BI Pandemic TV Show Grades

Hate to bring bad news but you guys can probably go ahead and skip Texas Chainsaw Massacre 2022 unless you are major Leatherface fans. That being said it does feature one of the more creative horror movie kills that I can recall. D+.

Ever watch the 1988 apocalyptic movie Miracle Mile starring Anthony Edwards and Mare Winningham?

I've watched it several times because it's set where I spent part of my childhood -- and filmed during my childhood.

(Fun fact: It's also set at the corner where Biggie was shot and killed in 1997.)

Well, it turns out....

Anthony Edwards has a small role in this Netflix original:

Inventing Anna (TV Mini Series 2022) - IMDb

https://www.imdb.com/title/tt8740976/

It may be the worst series I have had to suffer through. I will concede that Julia Garner is a good actress, but I hate her character in Ozark and the one in this is worse. One reviewer of Anna Chlumsky's performance stated she is the same annoying character from Veep but without good writing. It is 9 episodes of garbage that could have been handled in 3.

Solid first episode. I think they hit a home run with the guy playing Magic. John C Riley wasn't as distracting as I feared he would be. Jerry West will have some thoughts about this episode.

Some questionable visual effects choices (basically intentionally making certain shots blurry to make them seem authentic to the era).

Will check out tonight. I still can't believe Jeanie Buss posed for Playboy. Dat F'd up!

From a podcast interview with, of all people, Joe Buck:

Quote:

"When I posed, I was 32 years old," Buss said. "It wasn't like I was making a mistake that I didn't know what I was getting myself into. For me, I was at the maturity level that I could do it. And I was like every other model, I had to go through the test photo shoot and all that kind of stuff. It was my own personal goal, not anything to do with business or anything. Just something I wanted to do."

Buss praised her father, Jerry Buss, who purchased the Lakers in 1979 and groomed her into a successful sports executive, for how he handled her controversial decision to pose for the magazine.

"My dad is again one of the most brilliant people," she said. "He gave a quote that was so perfect, where he said, 'It will be the first issue of Playboy magazine I've never read.' (SI.com)

A woman in my class at Hastings was Miss September, 1979 (we graduated in May, 1979). She later went on to become Mrs. Jimmy Iovine for near 25 years. I can't believe she didn't pick up at least $300 to 400M in that divorce (he traded her in for a newer model as the really rich guys are wont to do). I never spoke to her. She was tight with Cloris Leachman's son, also in our class (I never spoke to him either)…..and Tom Mesereau, criminal defense counsel to the stars was also in our class….and I Triple Crowned here because I never spoke to him either.

*If memory serves, she started out as McCarthy and changed it slightly so as not to leak off her parents.

Cal Undergrad as well! Wonder if she's the only male or female Cal grad to make the cover of Playboy (that wasn't as part of a group photo).

Boy, Danny Noonan is being a real dick in Episode 1.

"Having walked with kings after living among commoners, Buss was a charismatic, calm and personable owner quite uncommon for a man of his fortune. From the bottom to the top levels of society, Buss treated all with the same genuine interest and respect."
Bleacher Report

*No wonder Kareem didn't want to participate. Unflattering depiction of his demeanor towards people. Saying "F off!" to a child actor? Really?

Uhhhh....nobody is participating, except Norm Nixon, whose son plays him. (A large number of people participated in the book the show is based on.)

Why would they participate since they're probably not going to get paid?

This series (which was announced 1 year before the pandemic) has sparked 2 "authorized" Lakers shows.

Also, I thought it was common knowledge that Kareem was a d*ck. I remember watching a documentary on him and he acknowledged that there was a negative perception of him that changed when he made fun of himself in Airplane!

What I meant by "participating" was Kareem refusing to talk to Solomon Hughes. I intend to mentor whoever plays me in "BI, The Movie.

*And yes, I always knew Kareem had a thorny personality but I didn't know it extended to telling a little boy to F off. I know Pam Grier thought he was an @$$h@le.

Think of it this way: If he talks to Solomon, then he's a little bit in. I think he'd rather be all in or all out. (Did Solomon reach out to Kareem? I think he answers in this interview with Vern Glenn, but I'm not gonna rewatch it.)

Also, Kareem is actually kind of a TV critic. He's an editor at large for The Hollywood Reporter who frequently writes about television. I wonder if he'll actually write about Winning Time. I think he'd rather be completely detached from the production if he does use his platform that way.

Lily James has won rave reviews playing Pamela Anderson on Pam & Tommy. She reached out to Anderson, who never responded back -- and now Anderson is working on her own Netflix documentary. Within the past, Anderson has made news for joining a Broadway musical and getting her own Netflix documentary. Without Pam & Tommy would there be this much interest in her. (All this is coming out with days to go before Pam & Tommy's finale.)

Of course, you can do what Impeachment: American Crime Story did, and bring in the main subject as a producer. But I'm not sure that was a good idea.

Sure, Kareem could be a jerk sometimes. Once, I looked up to him, totally kidding. and said "How's the weather up there, Kareem?" What does he do? He says, "It's raining, C." and spits on me.

And I wasn't even a child actor!

"A week later, Hughes found out he got the part. From there, he dove deep into the role. "I tell people it was like writing a research paper, and I don't know I've ever had more fun gathering the data for it," Hughes says. He watched Abdul-Jabbar's HBO documentary, "Kareem: Minority of One," to hear his voice. He spoke not only with Abdul-Jabbar's past teammates, but also jazz musicians like the legendary Wynton Marsalis. "If you know Kareem, you know jazz is really central to his life," Hughes says. (Abdul-Jabbar himself was less enthusiastic about the project, and his manager turned down Hughes' overtures for a chat.)"

yeah. it makes sense. he's going to hate the series. he knew it before even watching it (if he watches it). and what's the point of having any kind of relationship with the guy playing him?

Harley Quinn animated series on HBOMax featuring the voice talents of Kelly Cuoco. I'm not a big animation dude but this show is a total scream. Very adult, very silly, very fun. A-

At the opposite end of the Gotham spectrum we have, well, GOTHAM. Ryan from the OC does his best impression of a wooden plank pretending to be Jim Gordon. Weird cast. Can't get into it. C.

The subject matter doesn't hit the sweet spot for this crowd, but the first two episodes of the Kanye documentary on Netflix are excellent. The footage of him before he made it big is very compelling. I was never a Kanye fan, but I was rooting for the Kanye of the first two episodes. I'm not excited about watching Kanye as a famous and mentally ill person in the remaining episode, but I will watch it anyways to complete the story arc.

You don't have to like rap to enjoy this, but if you hate rap I suppose you should skip.

Oh, I enjoyed it. I'm not a big rap person. Like, I really didn't know much about Kanye's music, which I like. (I really didn't know about his body of work.) I'm fascinated in Kanye because we're close in age.

It was great. The final episode isn't that good, though. But it is interesting in a way.

I'm debating whether to rewatch it for its 50th anniversary. I've seen it maybe 10 times.

That interview was conducted by The New York Times' Dave Itzkoff (yes, I know you posted the free link). Just pointing it out.

I follow Alison Martino on Twitter. Her dad, Al, played Johnny Fontaine.

Severance on Apple TV is pretty great.

thanks so much for rec'ing that. Checked out the first episode knowing nothing and I dig the concept. (Reminds me of something said during the movie Office Space). Really looking forward to more.
